KABUL: Casualties were feared as a suicide bomber attacked a convoy of foreign troops in Kabul Tuesday morning, a police official said.
The Kabul police crimes branch chief said the suicide bombing occurred near the Kabul International Airport around 8.00am. Gen. Alishah Paktiawal added police were probing the assault.
Coming hours after US Defence Secretary Robert Gates arrival in Afghanistans capital on his third trip in a year, the explosion is believed to have caused casualties.
How many people were killed or wounded is not yet known, but one eyewitness thought some casualties resulted from the attack. Violence including suicide attacks, kidnappings and beheadings has spiked in recent years.
